"Wave" Shared Massage Chair

Wave is a massage chair designed for public spaces, such as airports and high-speed rail stations. In areas where people wait for extended periods, there is a demand for chargers and seating that not only meet basic needs but also alleviate travel fatigue. Wave’s design aligns with the characteristics of waiting areas, allowing travelers to comfortably spend their waiting time and quickly recover physically and mentally in a short period.

Challenges

In complex public environments with diverse signage, lighting, and colors, the challenge was ensuring travelers could instantly recognize the chair. Key considerations included selecting eye-catching colors, designing an appealing visual approach, and balancing seat comfort with portability.

Research & Insights

Based on the characteristics of waiting areas—including large spaces, high foot traffic, complex situations, high usage rates, and poor hygiene conditions—we analyzed the relationship between travelers and waiting environments, particularly focusing on the high demands for time efficiency and the crowded visual information in these spaces.

Solution

A Standout in a Cluttered Environment

A striking color is used to connect the handles seamlessly, forming a continuous, expansive surface that immediately catches travelers’ attention. The minimalist design of the handles and seating reduces maintenance needs and enhances user experience. By eliminating unnecessary functions and accessories, Wave maximizes placement efficiency in limited spaces.

Outcomes & Impact

The design simplified excess features and space usage, creating a compact footprint to meet the needs of airports and rail stations. It addressed challenges such as high foot traffic, frequent wear and tear of massage chairs, and difficulties in maintenance. The intuitive, streamlined interaction minimized learning time and allowed busy travelers to maximize their experience within limited timeframes.
