Project Challenge
FLOSSOM, a technology-driven skincare brand with 7 years of expertise in beauty devices, partnered with KKD (Kurz Kurz Design) to develop a groundbreaking beauty device. Beyond achieving harmonious, minimalist aesthetics, the core challenge was to innovate functional design that embodies a transformative vision.

Research & Insights
Current mask-style beauty devices are primarily used while seated or during activity. Through user observation, we identified critical pain points: Uneven force distribution, uncomfortable and unstable wearing, unappealing, intimidating design, low perceived value, restricted breathing.

Solution
KKD identified two core design focuses: enhancing the wearing experience and creating a premium aesthetic, to balance functionality and visual appeal.
We conducted feasibility analysis and validation across dimensions such as weight distribution, mechanical balance, wearing methods, and mask material. For weight distribution, we positioned the interaction power source at the back, establishing an integrated front-rear balanced structure. Combined with wireless design, this liberated users' hands, making the product lighter, more convenient, and comfortable to wear.
In product aesthetics (PI), the large suspended lens created a futuristic, tech-forward sensory experience. This functional design masked the awkward appearance of facial hole placements, while the gap between the suspended component and the mask naturally formed breath holes for users.

Functionally, the PRO-grade high-specification product features a surrounding light energy cabin, with arch-shaped support structures replicating the professional aesthetic of clinic-grade devices. This design enables dual core usage scenarios—users can either lie down or wear it comfortably, addressing both the need for wireless freedom and professional skincare repair.

To align with brand requirements, we extended the product series. The Fazhi "Aurora Mask" was born: its interaction and platform structures are positioned at the back to achieve balanced weight distribution, allowing it to be worn as effortlessly as a pair of glasses.

Outcome & Impact
The Aurora Mask's innovative design has garnered widespread recognition in the industry. It was featured at the 134-year-old World Congress of Dermatology (referred to as the "Olympics of Skin Science") and collaborated with Xinhua News Agency and Dr. Zhang from Huashan Hospital to produce a clinical research collaboration documentary. These achievements underscore its influence in both design innovation and practical application.
