COSMOS Water Purifier

This project was for Midea, a leading appliance manufacturer in China. The COSMOS Water Purifier is designed for the North American market, with a body primarily crafted through metal sheet bending. By enabling disassembly and compact storage, the design reduces product volume during packaging and transportation, achieving optimal cost efficiency.

Challenges

To minimize production and transportation costs for the water purifier while meeting users’ household drinking water needs, we sought new opportunities to reduce costs across all stages of production.

Research & Insights

Currently, under-mounted water tank purifiers on the market cannot be disassembled during packaging and transportation. This results in wasted space in the water tank area, increasing transportation costs, and complicating user logistics and installation.

Solution

By adopting an upper-lower separable design, the purifier’s volume is compressed by approximately 50%, eliminating unnecessary space and improving transportation efficiency. This reduces both shipping costs and logistical challenges.

Results & Impact

Compared to other brands in North America, the COSMOS purifier innovates through its upper-lower split assembly design, significantly lowering production and transportation costs. In terms of aesthetics, it distinguishes itself from competitors with numerous components and boxy shapes by adopting a sleek, rounded, cylindrical form. This maintains the product’s overall integrity while embodying Midea’s brand identity.
