BISTRO Steam & Oven Combo Machine

The BISTRO Steam & Oven Combo Machine features the largest viewing window among steam and oven combo machines on the market. Its bold burgundy hue aligns with female aesthetic preferences, and its user interface is designed for safety and simplicity, making it another innovation by Midea to penetrate the high-end lifestyle appliance market, targeting female consumers.

Challenges

As living standards rise, people increasingly prioritize high-quality living and dining environments. Growing demands for functional and premium kitchen appliances have spurred a surge in new kitchen appliance categories, intensifying market competition. The emergence of steam and oven combo machines has temporarily alleviated gaps in the cooking appliance market.

To capitalize on trends and explore further potential in the cooking appliance sector, we focused on female user characteristics through research and analysis. Our goal was to optimize the Bistro combo machine’s aesthetics and user interaction details while maintaining its superior technical framework, ensuring an exceptional user experience. Additionally, we aimed to position the next-generation product to dominate the high-end market’s female demographic and sustain Midea’s product recognition.

Research & Insights

Through competitive analysis and insights into target female users, we established the design foundation around their aesthetic preferences and behavioral habits. Creating product differentiation and sustainability became the core breakthrough for this project.

Solution

First, we reimagined the product’s appearance and color. To align with female users’ lifestyle habits, the design adopted burgundy, a color deeply favored by the target group. We also reduced the machine’s frame edges, creating a nearly full-screen viewing window for an immersive cooking experience.

To enhance usability, we simplified operations based on insights from similar products: a sleek rotary knob paired with an angled LCD screen allows users to operate the device without bending down, enabling hands-free control at a comfortable distance.

Safety was prioritized. The machine incorporates a secure locking mechanism, anti-scald assist handles, and a rear-mounted dual-turbine exhaust valve.

The anti-scald assist handle prevents steam leakage and hand burns when opening the door. The handle’s upright switch effectively isolates steam from fingers, ensuring safety.

The rear dual-turbine exhaust valve rapidly vents internal steam post-cooking, preventing water accumulation and bacterial growth. This safeguards food safety and reduces user cleaning efforts.

Outcomes & Impact

The BISTRO combo machine addresses market gaps in premium cooking appliances. Its dual focus on aesthetics and user experience has strengthened Midea’s product differentiation and market presence.
